Looks Familiar.. must have seen it in the news before. . .
soon after it came out as a debate topic in my school. .
"Mass Media is responsible for the decline in social values"
I couldn't help opposing this topic. .. some points stated during the inter-class debates were:
The mass media does not affect our social values because it is the person which has the choice of whether to allow the form of media to affect their values or not.
An example ,,, hmm.. If a person ,, say a guy, sees an ad promoting a bikini, He can choose to either look at the picture and fantasize about ... well.. or he can choose not to think about it and walk away,. Therefore, it is the interpretion of the ad by the person that causes the decline in social values instead of the media affecting them.
The internet is another good point which the proposition party can raise.
'What about the Internet? Doesn't those umm.. "irritating" pop-ups featuring the latest porn star support our point?'
And we say 'choices', and they shut up.
Also, if the proposition were smart enough to realize that pop-ups don't occur if the user hasn't visited any website relating to it, probably they would not have wasted their precious minute trying to bring that point across the members of the floor.
